Whenever you make a choice of a rental property in a ski resort you have a variety of trade-offs to make. In particular, do you want ski-in, ski-out or do you want to be right in the village area or at least within easy walking distance of it? This is usually a choice you are required to make if only because being ski-in, ski-out requires that you are some way up the mountain so that skiing out is possible.... Whistler is typical of ski resorts in this respect. The village lies at the bottom of the valley and offers a variety of accommodation above its shops and restaurants, and in developments within a short walk on 3 sides. However, only a very few of these are close enough to the lifts to make getting onto the gondola in the morning an exertion-free experience. Take one of the units at the far end of the Village and you will find yourself with a 10 minute slightly uphill trudge in your ski-boots, and carrying your skis to reach the lifts. This might be good for warming up your muscles before you ski, but many people will find it too much of an effort, and if you have small children in your group you won't want even to think about it. On the other hand, if you choose one of the ski-in, ski-out units in the Upper Village you can have a blissful location at the edge of the slopes for skiing, but when it comes to going out in the evening you are obliged to suffer the indignities of the shuttle bus, the cost of a taxi or the risk of walking down and then up a potentially icy road or path back to your accommodation. This trade-off is what makes Snowy Creek such an attractive location. By a peculiarity of Whistler Village geography it is the only development which offers both ski-in, ski-out convenience and a walk of less than 2 minutes to the shops and restaurants for your apr s-ski entertainment. It also has large homes which can accommodate 2 families at once. Many such families, once they have experienced a holiday in Snowy Creek, will choose nowhere else for their Whistler trips. Of course, the market for vacation homes is extremely efficient, and the cost of renting a home in Snowy Creek is correspondingly higher for the equivalent quality of property than other Whistler locations, but if you really don't want to compromise on convenience you really have no other options.
