The Las Vegas Vacation FAQ

If you've never been to Las Vegas and don't live in Phoenix, this city is unlike anything you have ever seen. Sweltering temperatures in the summer, cold air in the winter, and a dryness that leaves your skin clamoring for moisturizer are just some of the fun adventures waiting for the unprepared traveler.

Now that we've sufficiently scared you into packing accordingly, don't worry'Vegas is going to be the best (and most hydrated) trip of your life!

What's the temperature?

Just as where you live, Vegas gets colder in the winter and warmer in the summer. The only problem is that it gets much warmer in the summer, and sometimes a lot colder in the winter. If you are traveling between Memorial Day and Labor Day, prepare for 100 degrees + every day. During the shoulder months it gets a bit cooler, especially at night. The winter is
surprisingly chilly, as well, with temperatures averaging 37 degrees on midnight of New Year's. Pack accordingly.

I've heard the air in Vegas is dry. What gives?

Like our sense of humor, Las Vegas is extremely dry. If you normally need lip balm or moisturizer, you'll need twice as much here. If you don't, you'll still need some.

How much water do I need?

Bothered by the high cost of bottled water in their hotel, hundreds of Vegas travelers become dehydrated every year and suffer heat stroke. Bring bottles of water, purchase water off-Strip, or drink from the little hotel glasses and faucets if you must. The last thing you need is a dizzy spell on Las Vegas Boulevard while you clamor to keep up with the rest of your group.

Is it okay to bring my car?

First things first. If you have a car, read our Vegas Driving Guides for tips and tricks on where to go. Generally, cars are quite welcome in Las Vegas, with every casino featuring free parking to attract gamblers. Most travelers don't know, however, that driving on the Strip can add anywhere from 5 to 35 minutes to your trip. Several roads run parallel to the Strip and
offer easier access to the casinos and hotels. Use them.

Where do I find taxis?

Taxis are ubiquitous in Las Vegas, just walk up to the front door of any hotel and several will be waiting to whisk you away.

Is walking the Strip safe?

Walking 'the Strip' (Las Vegas Boulevard) is a must for any trip to Sin City. Be sure to make frequent stops in the nicer hotels, take pictures and drink plenty of water! We also recommend ditching the heels and wearing sneakers'your feet will thank us later.

How do I start gambling?

Even if you only play one hand or one quarter, everyone needs to partake in the vice that made Vegas a legend. While experienced players have their favorite spots, beginners should find lower-limit tables (usually at 3 star hotels and below) and hone their skills during off-peak hours (daytime, early morning).

What happens if I'm lost?

We're all lost, honey. As every casino in Vegas is extremely easy to get lost in (this town gives new meaning to the term 'money trap'), find a hotel worker and ask directions instead of trying to find your own way out. You'll be happy you did.
