Whether you are a business professional, student or casual Web surfer, having enough physical and virtual workspace is important, yet often hard to come by. Fortunately, today's widescreen liquid crystal displays (LCD) allow anyone to increase valuable workspace without great difficulty or expense.
Upgrading from a traditional cathode-ray tube (CRT) monitor or even from a typical 4:3 aspect ratio LCD monitor to a widescreen LCD will instantly create more actual and virtual desktop space, while adding a sleek, stylish touch to your office or den. That may be one reason a recent report by research organization DisplaySearch, "Quarterly Desktop Monitor Shipment and Forecast Report," called this "the year of the widescreen," with sales predicted to increase by 61 percent.
This newfound screen space doesn't just look good, it creates tangible productivity benefits by improving multitasking. The larger viewing area helps business users manage multiple documents and view data from a variety of sources, such as spreadsheets, sales reports and memos, at the same time. At home, widescreen monitors let users instant message, surf the Web and watch videos without shuffling or resizing multiple windows. Students can experience both the work and play benefits of widescreen monitors, such as viewing their essay and research side by side while studying for an exam, then watching their favorite widescreen DVD when it's time for a break.
While widescreen monitors were considered an unaffordable luxury a few years ago, considerable price drops by major vendors such as ViewSonic have made 19- and 20-inch widescreens much more affordable. Monitors that would have cost over $1,000 only five years ago are now as little as a couple hundred dollars.
Whether you measure productivity in words typed, pictures edited or facts found, upgrading to a widescreen LCD can help you achieve more in less time. |
